History

A theatre born with the city

Built in 1861 thanks to the initiative of the Società Filodrammatica cebana and the support of citizens, the theatre was named after the local playwright Carlo Marenco, a leading figure of Italian romanticism.

Designed in the Italian style by engineer Giovanni Levi, is a small 19th-century jewel that preserves its beauty intact: horseshoe-shaped stalls, three tiers of wooden boxes, frescoed ceiling, excellent acoustics.

After decades of intense activity and transformation the Marenco reopened in 2007 completely restored, ready to welcome a new season of cultural life.
